    Devin,

Asshole. You didn't take me to china, nor did you get me a souvenir. Oh well, I'll remember when I do study abroad this summer not to get you that big keg of german beer I know you secretly desire.

    :P

In defense of said friend who declines to participate in status updates: there are those of us who prefer to choose who we "push" our information out to. Some people tend to not like compulsively sharing life details with online acquaintances. It's not so much that we don't like to share/care, but your title says it all. EVERYONE is watching...that's kind of creepy. I tend to like to have a little bit more say and control over who my watchers are. "Anonymous" works for me: the people who need to who I am do, and the people who don't aren't harmed in any way by not knowing.
Just in case you were wondering...

Devin, interesting thoughts and something I've been thinking about a lot lately too. Damn interweb articles and friends keep getting in the way of my real relationships :P

I think that "caring" is related to relevence, novelty and intersection. You've inspired me to write a post about this - or at least think about what I'm going to write...

    Cheers,

Hey Jonathan, I like your point (and read your 'keeping in touch' article) and can agree. I'd be interested in your related post, be sure to trackback so we can check it out. Thanks for stopping by...

Mike, I know, I never know what to get Texans, though. Especially from a Communist country. Does that make your skin crawl? ;)

Anon, you don't need to come defend yourself. I realize not everyone would like to push the information out to everyone and you'd rather control that aspect of your life. That's totally fine. But for me, the benefits outweigh the 'creepiness' (so far). :)
