Devin Reams: Free Google Voice calls with T-Mobile myFaves

  • Josiah Johnson · 5 months ago
Unfortunately, this is apparently against the t-mobile myfaves user agreement. I'm not sure what the penalty for violating this would be. I guess that remains to be seen...

See the first footnote here: http://www.t-mobile.com/templates/generic.aspx?...
"*Your five numbers must be US domestic numbers and must not include 411, voicemail, toll-free, 900, calling card, and customers' own numbers; and single numbers allowing access to 500 or more persons."

Your GV number is both "your own number" and a number that theoretically gives you access to calling any number of people, i.e. "500 or more persons"

    Bummer. Makes sense though.

Thanks for pointing this out, Josiah. I had seen the footnotes about 411, 900 numbers, etc. but the highlighted part is new to me.

With regard to incoming calls to your GV number that are forwarded to your Tmobile phone, does your cell phone Caller ID show the caller's number or your GV number? If it shows the caller's number, does it count as a MyFaves (free) call?

    Thanks, Brian

There is the setting to have all incoming calls appear from your Google Voice number. ie: any time someone calls it is from your fave number (free calls) and Google Voice will announce (Incoming call from ______, press 1 to accept...).

If you choose to have the incoming calls show as the actuall caller then, no, those don't count towards your free fave minutes.

Thanks for the info, this is great news. I'm also curious to know if the new GV smartphone apps are smart enough to log inbound callers' numbers rather than the GV number.

does any 1 know how to get the fav 5 on your tmobile phone for free or does tmobile charge you for your fav 5
  • Devin Reams · 5 months ago
The ability to have the five 'myFaves' (free calls) is based on your plan. You can learn more about the plans at T-Mobile.

Just to clarify, you trade knowing exactly who is calling, for free calling. (Unless it's one of the 4 remaining individualized 5 faves) Is that right? Sounds great!
  • Devin Reams · 5 months ago
You trade the ability for your caller ID to recognize who is calling, but if you turn on 'Call presentation' (on by default), Google Voice will announce who is calling.

Call from 'Devin Reams'. Press 1 to accept, 2 to send to voicemail, 3 to listen in on the call, or 4 to record the call.

So I have Verizon, I can call up to 10 phone numbers for free (same as T-mobile)....Do you think as you stated in your blog, that while having the google voice number in my faves, yet having the phone display the caller id will not count towards free calls? Thanks.

    I could only assume so.
